Back to School?!?!

I have mixed feelings about summer. Part of me loves it-no making lunches before school, no driving the carpool, warm summer days, vacation, beach and pool fun, etc! On the other hand it can feel like every day you have to come up with activities to fill the time and try to keep kids busy and off screens. And if you are trying to work and juggle kids it can be quite overwhelming trying to find the right child care all summer. The days sometimes drag on and you might just look forward to night time when it’s quiet and everyone is in bed finally. It can feel like such a relief to have school start up again, knowing you will get back in a routine and not have to be the social coordinator for your kids (as much).

And then it’s back to school nights, early out days, kids struggling to get out the door on time, kids forgetting to turn in homework, or kids having emotional meltdowns or school refusal. It can really exhaust parents and make us want to go to bed long before the kids! “Fend for yourselves kids” (just kidding, kind of)!

You are not alone. Back to school transition is legit tough for many. If your kid is struggling to regulate their emotions, refusing to go to school, or if you wind up in power struggles over even small issues, there are things you can do to help your child and help yourself.

If you find you are struggling more than usual with your kids’ emotions or behaviors, it’s always a sign of strength to ask for help. Feel free to connect with me, I offer parenting sessions to help you gain insight and learn tools to get your sanity back and get kids back on track toward success in school and life.
